I am a PhD fellow at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ilisimatusarfik/the University of Greenland, and Nunatta Katersugaasivia Allagaateqarfialu (The National Museum and Archives of Greenland), where I am also physically based. My research investigates the cultural encounters between Inuit and the Moravian Brethren, a German Protestant Church that missioned in Greenland between 1733-1900. The aim of my research is to examine the relationship between change and continuity in memory and practice of Inuit, archaeologically, historically and as seen in the intangible cultural heritage of contemporary Greenland.

Following my undergraduate studies (BA Prehistoric Archaeology) at the University of Copenhagen and postgraduate studies at the University of Copenhagen, Sheffield University (Archaeology) and Aarhus University (Sustainable Heritage Management), I returned to Greenland in 2015 to work within the museum realm, first as a project manager for Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq and, from 2017-2019, as the curator for intangible cultural heritage at Nunatta Katersugaasivia Allagaateqarfialu.

I am sometimes found at Department of Culture and Social History at Ilisimatusarfik/University of Greenland, teaching Arctic Archaeology, the History of Greenland or giving passionate talks about theory, methodology or the correct amount of (oat) milk to coffee ratio.

My main interests are centred on identity narratives, entangled histories, cultural encounters and colonialism in the Arctic, and intangible cultural heritage. Being the product of a cultural encounter (Dane/kalaaleq – Greenlandic Inuk), I have navigated these fields from childhood and decided from an early age to dive further into these themes. My passion is to disseminate the past and past experiences to a broader audience. I want to be part of a safe space where complex histories and feelings are discussed, to explore the everyday lives in Arctic and Antarctic communities and understand what it means to be human under extreme conditions, be those weather related, social or political.
