I am a PhD fellow at The Oslo School of Architecture and Design in Norway (AHO). I was born and raised in Ireland and moved to Norway nine years ago where my intrigue and interest of Arctic landscapes developed.

I hold two Masters of Landscape Architecture from University College Dublin, Ireland and AHO (Tromsø Academy of Landscape and Territorial Studies). I have also practiced as a landscape architect in Dublin, Bergen and Tromsø over a ten year period and I am an affiliated member of the Irish Landscape Institute.

Prior to my PhD studies I taught at the Tromsø Academy of Landscape and Territorial Studies in Northern Norway leading two studio courses: Intervals of neglect: Industrial Heritage in the Arctic and Iconoscapes: Journeying through representations and realities of Northern territories. My studies and teaching in Tromsø allowed for some wonderful travel opportunities to Arctic and sub-Arctic regions, such as, the north coast of Norway, Svalbard, Greenland, Russia and Iceland.

Inspired by all these places, I decided to undertake a PhD that began in 2017. The research seeks to extend knowledge of High Arctic coastlines with a specific focus on the spatial, temporal and material conditions, processes and phenomena of these unique environments. The coastlines of three Arctic islands with staffed weather stations, and with no other population, were chosen as sites of investigation and experimentation for my research.

Exploring the temporality of these liminal zones and how people engage and interact with this specific landscape typology is at the core of my research. Much attention has also been dedicated to the rich photographic and weather archives that exist for these islands. These archives inform us on the conditions of the coastlines in the past, how people engaged with these coastlines differently over time and insights into the weather conditions that prevailed during different periods. The research aims to contribute to fields not only concerned with landscape inquiry but more specifically to the discipline of landscape architecture.
