I am a PhD candidate in International Relations at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. My research intends to present developments in the Arctic region through scenarios considering the period 2023-2035 that will help Portugal to consider the Arctic region and place itself in the Atlantic taking into account the upcoming connection of the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans facing maritime security and human security challenges in both regional contexts. My primary area of research is human security with a focus on Arctic Indigenous peoples with my thesis master focused on Human security of Inuit and Sámi in Canada and Finland: comparing Arctic policies, published in book version. The publication is open access.
My research has been funded by UNDP Cabo Verde for the development of an application for teenagers to contribute to ocean literacy and climate literacy and teaching about the negative impacts of plastic pollution.
I have participated in conferences and have published reflections and articles about the NATO and the Arctic, Governor General Mary Simon and the rapprochement of Portugal to the Atlantic Ocean, the latter published by Instituto de Defesa Nacional (IDN, Portugal).
I have presented my research at the Climate Change and Security Network organised by NATO STO CMRE held in Lerici (Italy) on October 2023 and was invited to comment on the Brazilian Polar Strategy for The Polar Journal.

Beyond academia, I have a wide range of professional experience, including more time as an Army Officer (Lieutenant) and working on international relations for multi-national companies (Salsa Jeans). The diversity of the work experience allowed me to gain and develop skills to try to better understand the changes happening in the world, more specifically in the Arctic region and ocean connecting to climate change and security.
