I am an Arctic Ecologist specializing in the study of freshwater ecosystems and their response to climate change. Inspired by my first expedition to Svalbard, I am committed to gain a better understanding of the Polar Regions and their ecosystems in order to contribute to conservation and climate literacy.

I hold a Bachelors in Biology and a Masters in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Currently, I am doing my PhD at the University of Copenhagen, focusing on primary producers in lakes and ponds in Greenland. This project seeks to extend our knowledge of how phytoplankton and microbial mat communities, which form the base of the aquatic food web, respond to changing environmental conditions. Additionally, I am a board member of APECS (Association of Polar Early Career Scientists) Denmark, were we aim to connect young polar scientists from Denmark and beyond, by organizing events such as our monthly seminar series.

The hidden world of aquatic microorganisms never ceases to amaze me. I always carry a collection tube or bottle with me, just in case I spot a murky-looking puddle on my daily commute or during other escapades. Back home, I explore these samples using my microscope, hoping to find some curious-looking algae or other cool microbes. And sometimes, I share a few photos or videos on my Instagram account as a form of science communication.

Having had the privilege of returning to the Arctic on several occasions, greatly impacted the way I approach my work. My fascination for the Polar Regions broadened and I seek to connect with people from all backgrounds, whether that is ecology, geopolitics, history or art.
